I’m so grateful to start sharing my artwork with you guys again. Here is “La Huesera” or “The Bone Woman” illustration drawn, painted and glazed by me.

La Huesera is a Mexican story about a woman who gathers bones in the desert. The woman collects all sorts of bones but most importantly, she collects wolf bones. She is there to preserve what is in danger of being lost. When she has assembled an entire skeleton, she sings to it, until the wolf comes into being. The creature runs away eventually transforming into a woman who runs free towards the horizon.

La Huesera is the ancient archetype of the crone, the one who knows, “la que sabe”, the one who is within us, that one many women have forgotten.

This illustration in particular has symbols from my personal journey; like the untouchable long hair I held on to for many years, the crown of teeth and bones passed down through generations as it is custom in many hispanic families, and a woman reaching deeply into herself to summon the ancient and sometimes forgotten feminine power that exists within us.
